U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation
2010 was the first year that Eastek International became involved with the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
Local toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until mid to late December. Toy distribution also takes place mid to late December. Members of the community drop new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses. Coordinators pick up these toys and store them in central warehouses where the toys are sorted by age and gender. At Christmas, Coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the less fortunate children of the community. Over the years, Marines have established close working relationships with social welfare agencies, churches and other local community agencies which are well qualified to identify the needy children in the community and play important roles in the distribution of the toys. While Toys for Tots Coordinators organize, coordinate and manage the campaign, the ultimate success depends on the support of the local community and the generosity of the people who donate toys.
Each year, Eastek International chooses a charity that directly benefits the local community. This year the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation was the selected charity. While the donation drive did not begin until mid-December this past year that did not stop Eastek’s employees from rallying to collect toys for the Toys for Tots charity. In the nine days that the charity drive took place, Eastek employees managed to fill the donation boxes until they were overflowing with toys for the children in the community. Every age group from infancy up through age 18 was taken care of by the generous employees at Eastek International.
Some of the many items donated this past year include: Remote control cars, Easy Bake Oven, Dolls, Skateboard, Tea Sets, Legos, Play Vanity Sets, Playdough Play Sets, Nerf Dart Games, Toy Helicopters, Matchbox Cars, Cologne, Perfume, Watches, Disney Play Sets, Basketballs, Footballs, Board Games, Tonka Construction Sets, Toy Strollers, Puzzles, Walkie Talkies, Dress Up Costumes, Fisher Price Play Sets, Tonka Trucks, Beauty Play Sets, Barbie Dolls, Twilight Gift Sets, Jewelry and so much more.
Eastek employees donated nearly $1000 including a matching company donation to the Toys for Tots charity in 2010. Eastek International selects a different charity each holiday season to support. The decision is made on which charity to donate to by the employees at Eastek. Everyone votes on which charitable organization should be chosen and the one with the most votes is the charity that is supported that holiday season.
It is important to Eastek International and their employees to find ways to give back to the local community. When the toy drive was over, Eastek’s employees were already making suggestions on which charities that they would like the company to support during the next holiday season. They wanted to find the charity that needed the most assistance and wanted to start the drive much earlier in the year so that there is plenty of time to collect as much as we can to help others. The generosity of the Eastek employees is unsurpassed. As soon as the notice of the donation drive is posted, Eastek employees are opening their wallets and their hearts to those who in need. At the end of the first day of the charity drives, the collection bins have already been filled with items donated by Eastek employees.
